NUMBER 561
QUESTION.
As a member of your Association I would appreciate it if you would be kind enough to inform me if it would be proper for me to insert the following announcement in the New York Law Journal in the column which makes known to members of the Bar that legal specialists are available for the service of other lawyers:
“Tax Attorney-Harvard-twenty years experience Tax Planning, Preparation, Audits, Assessments, Fraud, Pleadings, Appeals, Tax Court, Court of Claims, Federal Courts, – Profession only – John Doe – Address – Telephone”
ANSWER.
It is our opinion that the proposed notice does not contravene any of the Canons of Professional Ethics
Canon 46 specifically authorizes a dignified notice of a specialized legal service, directly and only to other lawyers, to be inserted in legal periodicals and like publications.
The publication of the proposed notice in the New York Law Journal comes within the bounds of this Canon, (See also Op. No. 375 of New York County lawyers’ Association, jointly rendered with The Association of the Bar of the City of New York.)
