Resolution to Support the Proposed Constitutional Amendment to Article VI, Sections 2 and 25, of the New York State Constitution

 

Resolution to Support the Proposed Constitutional Amendment to Article VI, Sections 2 and 25, of the New York State Constitution to Allow Court of Appeals Judges to Serve until Age 80 and to Allow Supreme Court Justices to be Certificated from Age 76 to 80

 

This resolution was approved by the Board of Directors of the New York County Lawyers’ Association at its meeting on September 9, 2013.

 

WHEREAS the New York State legislature has twice passed a proposed amendment to the New York State Constitution raising the mandatory retirement age for Supreme Court Justices and Court of Appeals Judges; and

 

WHEREAS in order to become effective this amendment has been placed on the ballot for ratification by the New York State voters; and

 

WHEREAS the New York County Lawyers’ Association has long supported raising the retirement age for all judges in New York state; and

 

WHEREAS the New York County Lawyers’ Association supports the ratification of this proposed amendment as a first step towards the goal of raising the mandatory retirement age of all judges in New York state;

 

NOW BE IT RESOLVED that the New York County Lawyers’ Association supports the proposed amendment to Article VI, Sections 2 and 25 of the New York State Constitution, which will appear on the ballot on November 5, 2013, raising the mandatory retirement age for Supreme Court Justices and Court of Appeals Judges.
