COURSE DETAILS

The program will cover  important trends in the filing of securities class actions, including the surge in the number of class actions filed.

  • Sasha Aganin of Cornerstone Research, a leader in developing securities class action statistics, will provide data on the overall number of filings, the types of cases (including separate analysis of merger and non-merger cases),  the industries most frequently targeted, the choice of Federal versus State Court, the districts and circuits preferred by plaintiffs and data relating to what law firms are filing the most cases.
  • Johanna Fricano, the Claims Practice leader for Public Company Management Liability of QBE, will offer commentary on what an important D&O insurer is seeing in terms  of claims and the implications for  D&O insurance.
  • Adam Hakki of Sherman & Sterling and Gregory Markel of Seyfarth Shaw, two distinguished and leading  members of the Securities Litigation Defense Bar, and Jeroen van Kwawegen of Bernstein Litowitz Berger & Grossmann LLP, will provide analysis of the data.

Finally, there will be a panel discussion of  the reasons for the increase in the number of cases as well as changes in the characteristics of the cases.
