COURSE DETAILS

Louis Brandeis was a pragmatic idealist, visionary in thought, but with an eye toward achieving practical results.

Brandeis was a lawyer, reformer, and jurist whose legacy is profoundly felt in every aspect of life in the United States.

A champion of the Constitution and the first Jewish justice on the Supreme Court, he faced a contentious confirmation, and in fact was disparaged in many quarters a century ago.

Yet his confirmation led to other distinguished Jewish justices joining the Court, including Benjamin Cardozo, Arthur Goldberg, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and currently Elena Kagan.

He was a principled dissenter, opposed FDR’s “court-packing” plan, and formed a bond with Oliver Wendell Holmes.

Join us to hear about his fascinating story, major contributions, and lasting legacy.
