New York, NY — The New York County Lawyers Association CLE Institute will present: The Legal Issues Surrounding War Powers on May 4, 2026, at the NYCLA Home of Law located at 111 Broadway, New York, NY. The program is also available via webinar.
The Constitution gives Congress the power to declare war and “raise and support” armies. The 1974 War Powers Act reaffirmed and reinforced Congress’s constitutional role in the decision to go to war.
Nonetheless, today the president frequently deploys U.S. military force without seeking congressional approval.
