Since its inception, NYCLA has been at the forefront of most legal debates in the country. We have provided legal education for more than 40 years.
New York, NY — NYCLA will present a timely and engaging program examining the life, activism, and legal struggles of John Lennon. The program explores his political advocacy, high profile legal disputes, and the landmark immigration case that allowed him to remain in the United States following years of deportation proceedings.
The discussion will focus on Lennon’s four year legal battle arising from a prior drug conviction and the Second Circuit decision that rejected selective deportation based on political grounds. Less than a year after that ruling, Lennon received his green card, marking a significant moment in immigration and civil liberties law.
The program will be led by Rudolph Carmenaty, Deputy Commissioner of the Nassau County Department of Social Services. Newly admitted attorneys should note that in person attendance is required to qualify for CLE credit.
In person attendees are invited to remain after the program for a reception featuring John Lennon’s music, light refreshments, and an opportunity to connect with fellow participants.
