NYCLA HOSTS PUBLIC FORUM: NOVEMBER 2008 – ARE OPEN PRIMARIES THE
PROBLEM OR THE SOLUTION? ON DECEMBER 4
NOVEMBER 24, 2008 – NEW YORK, NY- The New York County Lawyers’ Association’s (NYCLA) Election Law Committee is hosting a free public forum, “November 2008 – Are Open Primaries the Problem or the Solution,” on Thursday, December 4 beginning at 6:00 PM at the NYCLA Home of Law, 14 Vesey Street. Panelists will examine the pros and cons of open primaries, in which independent voters are allowed to vote.
The panelists are: Harry Kresky, counsel, New York City Organizations of the New York Independence Party; Steven H. Richman, general counsel, Board of Elections in the City of New York; Jackie Salit, president, Committee for a Unified Independent Party; and Jacob Weintraub, former agency counsel for Democratic and Republican governors. The moderator will be David Seifman, City Hall bureau chief for the New York Post.
This public forum is among the myriad Centennial events taking place at the New York County Lawyers’ Association (www.nycla.org), which was founded in 1908 as the first major bar association in the country that admitted members without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, gender or sexual identity. Since its inception, it has pioneered some of the most far-reaching and tangible reforms in American jurisprudence and has continuously played an active role in legal developments and public policy.
