Since its inception, NYCLA has been at the forefront of most legal debates in the country. We have provided legal education for more than 40 years.
This discussion will focus on the findings and themes presented in America’s Rule of Law: Contradictions and Crossroads, including Americans’ understanding of and confidence in the rule of law, the Constitution, our courts and other governmental institutions, due process and equal rights, and the independence of the legal system. We also hope to explore what members of the legal profession, the judiciary, academia, and the broader civic community can do to strengthen public understanding of and confidence in the rule of law and our constitutional system.
An especially interesting aspect of the report is the contrast between the divisions reflected in some of the survey results and the greater common ground that emerged during the focus group discussions. We hope to explore what those findings tell us about public attitudes toward the rule of law and whether informed dialogue can help bridge some of the divisions reflected in our national discourse.
