COURSE DETAILS

This training is intended for people interested in volunteering for the Part 137 Fee Dispute program.  The 2 half-day FREE training will consist of lectures, discussions as well as MANDATORY ROLE PLAY EXERCISES, where attendees’ cameras and sound MUST be turned on.  Join us for 2 half-days of trainings to learn what you need to know to become a Part 137 Fee Dispute Arbitrator. CLEs available.

To be accepted as an arbitrator you must complete each of the steps found in the document FOUND HERE.

Topics include:

Day 1 (October 22, 2026):

  • General Overview of the Part 137 Program
  • Reasonableness of the Attorney Fee
  • Ethical Issues
  • Diversity, Inclusion and Elimination of Bias in the Conduct of Proceedings, Evidentiary Analysis and Decision Making
  • Questions and Answers

Day 2 (October 23, 2026):

  • What Do You Actually Do as a Part 137 Arbitrator?
  • Pre-hearing Preparation
  • Opening the Hearing, followed by Role Play 1
  • Hearing the Evidence, followed by Role Play 2
  • Concluding the Hearing, followed by Role Play 3
  • Drafting the Decision
  • Debriefing and Final Thoughts

 

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Attorneys and non-attorneys with experience may apply for the program.
  • The Board of Governors MUST approve all neutrals to arbitrate for the program. Attending the program IS NOT a guarantee that you will be accepted to volunteer for the program.
  • When considering which program you would like to volunteer for, check the local program rules to determine whether you meet the local program requirements. Some programs require attorney applicants to be admitted to the New York Bar for at least 5 years.

Please note: application for Part 137 program is required to receive CLE credits. Partial CLE credits will not be awarded for this program. To receive the CLE credits, you must attend the program fully.
