Records & Briefs
The Library’s extensive archival collections of records and briefs are available for public viewing or can be copied for you for a nominal fee.  The NYCLA Library houses some unique trial transcripts such as those in People vs. Steuer (the Trial Shirtwaist Factory fire).

The reference staff will locate, pull and copy any Record and Brief in the Library's extensive collection.  To order the briefs or the record on appeal, contact us at 212-267-6646 Ext 204, or email us.

The collection contains Records and Briefs from all four Appellate Divisions, the New York Court of Appeals, the U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.  The collection includes:

  • Appellate Division, First Department 1906 to present

  • Appellate Division, Second Department 1940 to present

  • Appellate Division, Third Department 1950 to present

  • Appellate Division, Fourth Department 1950 to present

  • New York Court of Appeals 1920 to present

  • U.S. Second Circuit 1963 to 1996

  • U.S. Supreme Court 1983 to 1999
