The New York County Lawyers Association is pleased to join the growing number of our fellow bar associations that have expressed support for the Equity for Surviving Spouses Act (ESSA). 

As we head into the last quarter of the Supreme Court's term, a number of important decisions are yet to be issued. Two of these were argued together in late February, and they concern state censorship in social media and on the internet.

The New York County Lawyers Association (NYCLA) applauds the introduction of Assembly Bill 9143, which would amend the Retirement and Social Security Law to ameliorate the effects of the “Death Gamble.”

For all the controversy that is out there these days about illegal immigration, the one thing that is continuously missing in the debate is truth and light.  Simply put, neither side is being honest.

“Ethical rules prohibit Justice Merchan from speaking out to protect himself and his family members, so we must do it for him – and we will,” said Adrienne Koch, NYCLA’s President.

The Judicial Security Act would strengthen the safety and security of New York state and federal judges and other court personnel by protecting their personally identifiable information, including addresses, information about family members, and financial data, from public view.
