W YCLA’s Pro Bono Project on Certificates of Relief from Civil Disabilities and Certificates N of Good Conduct provides assistance to formerly incarcerated individuals with criminal convictions, by educating them and giving them the tools needed to apply for the appropriate certificate. NYCLA recruits and trains volunteer attorneys by providing free CLE programs in exchange for pro bono hours. These certificates help formerly incarcerated individuals successfully reintegrate into society and contribute to their communities by removing bars and disabilities resulting from certain convictions, including employment barriers, loss of voting rights and housing restrictions. The success of our programs would not be possible without the efforts of our volunteers, who continuously inspire me. This newsletter features the recipients of NYCLA’s 2018 Pro Bono Awards — volunteers who went above and beyond this past year and to whom we are grateful.
